This week marks a significant milestone for our Year 12 students - the successful completion of the first week of their final examination period. I want to take this opportunity to commend our Year 12 students for the focus, perseverance, and maturity they have demonstrated. These exams are more than a test of content knowledge; they are a testament to each student’s journey through years of learning, growth, and hard work. Behind this achievement lies a clear and deliberate investment in one of the most powerful tools of academic and personal success: writing.
At our school, we have placed a strong and sustained emphasis on enhancing writing outcomes and developing student voice, from Year 7 right through to Year 12. Writing is not just a skill; it’s a gateway to deeper thinking, clearer communication, and greater confidence. Over the years, we have worked intentionally to move students beyond spoken-like writing – informal and conversational towards sophisticated, academic writing that reflects critical and analytical thinking and powerful expression. This explicit focus on writing has been embedded across every year group and every faculty. Whether students are crafting analytical essays, scientific reports, persuasive speeches or reflective narratives, the goal remains the same - to stretch every learner and empower them to articulate their thoughts with precision and insight.
Our Year 12 students have risen to this challenge. The writing they have produced in their assessments is a culmination of years of drafting, feedback, and refinement. It reflects their ability not just to understand, but to interpret, to argue, and to contribute thoughtfully to complex ideas and global conversations. As we continue to walk alongside our Year 12 students in the weeks ahead and support the younger years on their own writing journeys, we remain committed to nurturing strong writers, bold thinkers, and confident communicators.
