Year 10 Elective History Report

Year 10 Elective History Report

This term Year 10 Elective History have been completing their unit on Archaeology.

Students first investigated what archaeology is, the differences between historians and archaeologists, as well as the archaeological and excavation process. Students then examined the cases of various mummified human bodies such as the Chinchorro Mummies, Tollund Man and Lindow Man.

This week to recap the archaeological process 10 Elective had a go at excavating their own archaeological digs! Students were in groups given a tub filled with sand and various artefacts including fossils, coins, jewellery and shells. They used various archaeological tools such as brushes,  weezers and trowels to uncover the artefacts within the grid system. Once uncovered and cleaned, students left the ‘in-situ’ (where they were found) to sketch them on their grid and note down in a table the various artefacts they found.

To finish they had to describe their archaeological sites and the location of their artefacts. Students enjoyed the opportunity to ‘get their hands dirty’ with this practical activity!
