Students 'Branch Out' in Sustainability Competition

Students with Dr Karl

On Friday 13 June, students from Year 7 and 11 proudly represented Strathfield Girls High School at the 2025 Speaking for the Planet Competition, held at Rosebank College. This arts-based event invited students to respond creatively to the urgent theme: "Earth’s Future Needs Action Now! Greenhouse Gases = Climate Calamity."  Throughout the day, participants engaged with inspiring environmental messages, including an insightful talk by the renowned Dr. Karl, who spoke passionately about the science and impacts of climate change. Students from across Independent, Catholic, and Public Schools in the Strathfield Network took part in categories such as writing, public speaking, and recycled art.

Strathfield Girls achieved exceptional results, with 7B English earning 2nd place in the writing category but then winning the People’s Choice Award for writing. In recycled art, Chanel Moufferrige was awarded 3rd place and also received the People’s Choice Award, while Azin Jifry took home 2nd place. Honourable mentions go to Isla Angus for her confident performance in the oral competition, and to Bianca So and Fiona Yin for their visual art entries. It was a day filled with creativity, awareness, and student voices calling for environmental action.

Congratulations to our students who represented Strathfield Girls High School with grace, intelligence and powerful conviction — they truly are the voices of the future.
