Ten wonderful students from Strathfield Girls High School recently visited the Yagoona RSPCA, where they participated in a hands-on educational program focused on animal welfare. The program, aligned with the Australian Curriculum, offered an in-depth look at the RSPCA's efforts to protect and care for animals and provided valuable insights into careers in animal welfare.
The day began with an introduction to the RSPCA, a leading organisation committed to preventing cruelty and promoting the humane treatment of animals. Students learned about the critical work the RSPCA does in advocacy, rescue, and rehabilitation across various animal sectors.
An engaging workshop followed, where students explored how they can support animal welfare. They discussed key issues such as responsible pet ownership and animal rights, fostering a deeper understanding of their potential impact as advocates for animals in their communities.
The guided tour of the Yagoona shelter gave students a firsthand look at the facility’s operations. They visited the veterinary clinic, adoption centre, and rehabilitation areas, gaining insight into the daily care and treatment of rescued animals. The experience highlighted the RSPCA's commitment to finding loving homes for animals in need.
Students were introduced to the RSPCA AWARE education resources, which provide comprehensive materials for learning about animal welfare. The program also included a session on career pathways in animal welfare, covering roles such as veterinary medicine and wildlife conservation. This session aimed to inspire students to consider careers that contribute to animal welfare and informed them about the skills and qualifications required.
This visit to the Yagoona RSPCA enriched the students' educational journey, deepening their understanding of animal welfare and inspiring them to support compassionate treatment of animals. For more information on RSPCA programs go to https:// www.rspca.org.au/
We look forward to the two sessions we have scheduled in Week 8!
