Hippo Project Has Students Hungry For Numeracy!

Homebush Boys High School, Strathfield Girls High School, Marie Bashir Public and Homebush West Public enjoyed a spectacular showcase following the very rich combined schools’ Hippo Numeracy Project. Year 6 students, guided by our Year 8 talented mathematicians explored the concept of scale and created hippo enclosures to capture the findings of their research. Judges went around to each hippo enclosure model and asked clarifying questions about the thinking and design features of each enclosure. The judges were extremely impressed with the depth of understanding and the ability of students to unpack the thinking behind their enclosure designs. Such a wonderful celebration of the collaboration across schools for our Strathfield Network. Special thanks to Mr Smith, Head Teacher Mathematics and Mr Bandara for organising this magnificent event and being such fantastic hosts!
