Covid Communication Term 3 Week 1

Letterhead

16 July 2021 After a highly successful School Development Day on Monday 12 July 2021 where staff participated in COVID safe professional learning sessions, Term 3 Week 1 went on to indicate the calibre of our school community and the value that is placed on the education of our girls.

I would like to begin by commending our teachers for their commitment in transitioning so smoothly to remote online learning. We have had a very successful teaching and learning week and I encourage parents to monitor and keep their daughters engaged in their learning. All students are expected to log on to their online platforms as per usual/normal timetable. I stress that this is very important for roll marking purposes (taken in the first 10 minutes of each period) and to enable contact with teachers, as well as engage with the learning material.

Our school is open to any student who needs to work on site. If students are on site, they MUST WEAR A MASK at all times and sign on at the front office before 8.45 am.

In Week 2, remote online learning will continue for all students from Year 7 to Year 12. Year 7 will continue to work on set literacy and numeracy tasks until further notice.

As the lockdown is continuing until 30 July, Year 7 need to be prepared for transitioning to operating on their normal timetable soon. Carla Fawaz, Year 7 Adviser will post instructions to the students and I urge parents to assist them with this transition when it begins. We will send an email to Year 7 parents closer to the date of transition.

Year 7 to 10 students have also been assigned a video project on their Year/Cohort Online Platform. This is meant to be a fun and interactive way of reflecting on their Semester 1 progress and what their next steps will be. Reflecting, evaluating and setting goals for personal development is a life skill and our girls will benefit greatly from this activity. It will also bring relief from their online academic work.

The wellbeing of our students is always at the forefront of our planning. Our Learning and Engagement/Wellbeing Team has devised a 100-Point Wellbeing Challenge and our PDHPE Faculty will soon begin uploading some sport activities too. Please encourage your daughters to complete these activities to stay healthy, connected and engaged. They can even set up little competitions in their peer groups and post appropriate photos of them completing the challenges on the Year/Cohort online platforms. Please remind your daughters of our Acceptable Use of the Internet Policy, and to be kind to one another when posting online.

Next week, we allow students to collect items (textbooks, equipment, exam papers etc) from school.

Students MUST enter the school site via the front administration office and MUST check in and out with the QR code posted in the school foyer.

All students MUST wear masks while at school.

Tuesday, 20 July 2021 – Year 12 students will be permitted to visit Faculty Staffrooms/lockers between 11am and 3pm. If Year 12 students are at school to complete major works for practical subjects, they can visit Faculty Staffrooms during their time at school.

Thursday, 22 July 2021- Year 11 students will be permitted to visit Faculty Staffrooms/lockers between 11am and 3pm. Junior students will have a turn to visit school to collect their items in Week 3. If there are any urgent items at school, students must make prior arrangements with their Year Adviser or Class Teacher and then follow the guidelines outlined above while at school. Strathfield Girls High School Term 3 Week 1 Dream, believe, inspire, achieve.

Students living in the Fairfield LGA MUST follow the NSW Health testing requirements and will need to produce evidence of this on arrival at school.

Please stay safe and positive during these challenging times. We are here to assist you with any concerns. Please do not hesitate to contact someone at the school if you require any assistance or have any matters to discuss. Please call the office on 9746 6990 and provide your daughter’s name and someone will call you back to check in with you. Students are also able to send their teachers a private message via their online platforms.
