Dear Parent/Carer,

I am writing to inform you of the changes that will occur regarding teaching and learning at Strathfield Girls High School as of Tuesday 24 March 2020.

The onset of the COVID-19 virus has created significant challenges to students, parents and educators that have never been experienced in our lifetime.

The NSW Premier Ms Gladys Berejikllian, yesterday encouraged parents to keep their children at home. At Strathfield Girls High School, a number of families have chosen to keep their children at home and as a school community we support this decision, however, your daughter will remain connected with the learning process.

The school is open and will remain open until the end of term for those parents working in the health system, education system, emergency services and for other essential service workers who need their children to be supervised at the school site during the school day.

At Strathfield Girls High School teaching and learning is a priority and the school is committed to continue its high standard of instruction during these challenging times. As of today the school will move to a remote learning mode of delivery as per the NSW Department of Education recommendations for all schools. This will allow students to continue their education until further notice.

Information about learning from home can be found on the NSW Department of Education website http://education.nsw.gov.au/teaching-and-learning/curriculum/learning-from-home/advice-to-parents-and-carers

Parents who have chosen to keep their children at home, are requested to notify the school that their daughter/s will be studying from home. During this time, parents must take responsibility for the supervision of their children and ensure that all learning activities are completed while at home.

All students whether at home or at school will be expected to complete the same online learning content organised by their teachers. Students will need to check their online learning platforms every day, as well as their Department of Education email for updates in regards to their learning experiences.

The school will be communicating via email at various times and through the school’s website. Please ensure that all your contact details are current to ensure effective communication between the home and school. To update your details, please email katrina.koutoulas@det.nsw.edu.au.

Thank you for your ongoing support as the health and safety of our students and staff is of paramount importance and our priority. Please continue to check our website for updates.

Yours sincerely,

Angela Lyris

Principal
