Book Club

Aim: To encourage more students to read and participate in the Premier’s Reading Challenge.

Book Club is available for students in Year 7 - 9 to join, where they are able to have discussions about books and participate in activities that will expand their knowledge in a variety of literature. It is vital for students to understand the importance of reading. It allows students to gain a deeper understanding on a variety of texts, expand their vocabulary, increase reading comprehension, improve writing skills and help students to become more creative. 

Activities:

  • Students will write their own book recommendations which will be posted around the library
  • Participate in book discussions
  • Participate in the Premier’s Reading Challenge

Premier’s Reading Challenge

Students in Year 7 to Year 9 will be able to participate in this event. The Challenge begins on March 4 and closes on August 30. During this time, student will read approximately twenty books and log these books on their Student Reading Record online. After completing the Premier’s Reading Challenge, students will receive an award of completion.

Book Week

During this week, schools and public libraries around Australia celebrate books, authors and illustrators. During this time, students will receive a presentation from an  author the school has invited. They will have the opportunity to ask the author questions concerning books or advice on writing.
