Year 11 elective Visual Arts students have just returned from their annual retreat camp at Bundanon Trust. Bundanon is a rural / farming property, located on the edge of the beautiful Shoalhaven River on the South Coast of NSW. The property was the home and studio of one of Australia’s most celebrated artists, Arthur Boyd. He gave the property as a gift to the nation shortly before passing away in 1999, on the condition it continued to be used as a retreat and studio space for artists and students.
Our Year 11 girls are very privileged to have the opportunity to stay at the property for two days at the start of their preliminary course. The camp is compulsory for all Year 11 Visual Arts students and the work they produce forms part of their first assessment task on Landscape Painting. During their stay, the girls toured Arthur Boyd’s studio, residence and private art collection. They also created lots of art, undertaking Art Workshops in painting and drawing on location in the surrounding property, under the instruction of Bundanon Trust education staff. The girls and teachers had a fabulous time bonding as a group, creating wonderful artwork and setting themselves up for an exciting year of learning and creativity. I would like to thank parents for continuing to support their girls in this annual Creative Arts initiative at the school.
