End of year events for Year 12
As your daughters conclude their secondary education, we would like to advise you of events in which they will be involved.
Year 12 lessons will be held up until Period 2 on Thursday, 20 September 2018. It is essential for students to attend all lessons in order to ensure that they are best prepared for the HSC Examinations.
The school has organised programs which mark the conclusion of formal schooling for students and which acknowledge the tradition of celebrating this milestone. These programs include a Fun Activity Day, a picnic, a Review Assembly hosted by your daughters and activities on the hockey field. These activities should be enjoyable, create a positive atmosphere and recognise the valuable contributions that these students have made to our school community.
The Department of Education has written to all schools to point out the importance of good and responsible behaviour of Year 12 students during the final days.
The majority of our students behave responsibly and in a manner that brings credit to themselves and their school. However, all students should be reminded that antisocial activities are not appropriate at any time or in any place, and that they should not expect to be exempted from the law on the basis of their status as students.
Any frivolous or ‘muck up' behaviour during the final days of school will not be tolerated or accepted. In the past, Year 12 students of Strathfield Girls High School have been very responsible, co-operative and have enjoyed their end of term events. It is expected that our current Year 12 students will also behave responsibly and do themselves, their peers and our school proud.
We seek your assistance in ensuring that your daughters clearly understand their responsibilities when engaging in end of year activities and that any such activities should be designed to bring credit to themselves, their peers and their school, and provide an opportunity for the school community to wish them well.
It is disappointing that there are still many students with outstanding fees. You are required to pay your outstanding course fees by Monday, 17 September 2018. Any text books, library books or other course related items not returned must be paid for.
A Graduation Ceremony will be held at the Marie Bashir Hall on Tuesday, 25 September 2018 at 6 pm. Family members will be issued with invitations and two nominated family members per student will be admitted on the day. Tickets will be issued to students once their family guests have been registered. Guests are required to be seated by 5.45 pm.
Year 12 students are required to arrive at the Marie Bashir Hall by 4.30 pm and report to Ms Maharaj inside the Hall.
All Year 12 students must wear full school uniform, including blazers, to this event and their behaviour on this occasion is also expected to be of a high standard.
It is anticipated that the ceremony will last approximately 2 hours, and thereafter, you will be able to take photographs at two areas of the MBH and foyer. Boxed cake will be served for you to take home, as food is not permitted at the MBH.
The Higher School Certificate Examinations commence on Thursday, 18 October 2018. All HSC written Examinations will be held at the SCHOOL. Venues will be published each morning in the Hall foyer. Please ensure that your daughter is punctual for exams as no additional time can be allotted if she arrives late.
Parents and carers are reminded that students are expected to wear full school uniform during ALL Higher School Certificate examinations and that they will not be permitted to take mobile phones into examination venues. Your daughters have been advised to place their bags and valuables, including mobile phones, in their lockers during the HSC examination period.
Any student who is unable to attend an HSC examination must contact the Principal. Any student who needs to complete an Illness/Misadventure form during the examination period must see the HSC Presiding Officer, Mrs Robyn Manahan, on the day of the examination and Ms Maharaj to assist with the application form.
Students are encouraged to return textbooks at the examination venue on the day of each HSC examination, or at the appropriate staff room, either before or after examinations. Textbooks for each subject need to be tied together in a bundle and clearly labelled with a name, the name of teacher and the names and numbers of returned texts.
On Tuesday, 20 November 2018, all students are expected to complete our clearance procedures between 1:00 and 3.00 pm. Students are to report to the Hall to collect and complete their clearance forms. We hope to present your daughters with their references and reports at this meeting. All lockers must be cleaned out before students receive their portfolios. Locks and uniforms may be donated to the school.
A Year 12 Formal Farewell Evening has been arranged at Luna Park, Sydney on Thursday, 15 November 2018. The function will begin at 7.00pm and end at 12.00 midnight.
A Big Celebratory Breakfast will be held on Tuesday, 18 December 2018 at Strathfield Girls High School Common Room between 8.00 – 10.00 am. This is an opportunity for our girls to catch up with their friends and share information about their plans for the future in an informal setting.
We again seek your assistance in ensuring that you discuss the contents of this letter with your daughters and impress upon them, the importance of full co-operation until the end of the HSC examination period so that their completion of their high school career at Strathfield Girls High School remains a memorable and pleasant one.
Finally, we would like to congratulate your daughters for their tremendous contribution to our school, for their commitment to their studies which will result in the attainment of a HSC, and we wish them well for their examinations and their future.
Yours sincerely
